Recognition and reward
Recognition of professional development will be both formal and informal.
Informally, we have the personal satisfaction of seeing positive results in our teaching. We may have feedback from colleagues and students that confirms that our efforts are effective. We should not underestimate the power of personal satisfaction in doing a good job, not least in preventing 'burn-out'.
Formally, there will also be opportunities to have achievements recognised through various reward schemes. For example, there may be possibilities of pay increments, honoraria, fellowships and promotions. You should check within your institution what is available.
